About the City of TorontoIt opened in 1920 and since that time it has gone by many names: Pantages Theatre, Imperial Theatre, and Canon Theatre. Today, the historic venue is called the Ed Mirvish Theatre. You’ll find this impressive building at 224 Victoria Street near Yonge-Dundas Square. An even older theatre in the city of Toronto is Massey Hall. That venue first opened its doors in 1894 and since that time it has seen performances by Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Rush. Additional performance venues in Toronto include the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, Princess of Wales Theatre, Roy Thomson Hall, and the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre. The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the NHL’s original six franchises. The Leafs share the Air Canada Centre with the Toronto Raptors of the NBA. The city’s lone MLB franchise is the Toronto Blue Jays. In 1992, the Blue Jays captured the World Series title to become the first team outside of the United States to ever do so. They repeated as champions the following year. The Jays play their home games at the impressive Rogers Centre and are aligned in the American League’s East Division. If that wasn’t enough sports, Toronto is also represented in the Canadian Football League (Toronto Argonauts), Major League Soccer (Toronto FC), Canadian Women’s Hockey League (Toronto Aeros), and National Lacrosse League (Toronto Rock). On top of all that, the city also hosts select Buffalo Bills games at the aforementioned Rogers Centre. Of course, Toronto is first and foremost a hockey town. Not only are the Leafs well supported but the Hockey Hall of Fame is located downtown at 30 Yonge Street.
