Philly is one of 12 U.S. cities with a franchise in each of the four major North American sports league. Furthermore, they are one of three cities (the other two being Chicago and Denver) where all four teams play within the city limits. The town’s sports teams play at venues located inside the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. The Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL play at Lincoln Financial Field. The Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball call Citizens Bank Park Home. And the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA and Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL both play at the Wells Fargo Center. While all teams are well supported, between them they’ve only won 10 championships. The most recent championship came in 2008 when the Phillies defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series. Prior to that, the city’s last title taste came in 1983 (76ers). College basketball is quite popular in Philadelphia thanks to the so-called “Big 5.” The city is home to five Division I college basketball programs: Saint Joseph’s University, La Sale University, Temple University, University of Pennsylvania, and Villanova University. Not part of the “Big 5,” but also a Division I school, is Drexel University. The Philadelphia Union entered Major League Soccer in 2010. Their home pitch is PPL Park located in nearby Chester, Pennsylvania. Other areas of interest in Philadelphia include the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Walnut Street Theatre, and the Academy of Music.
