A Review
of Wicked the Musical

My wife and I saw Wicked the Musical at the Boston
Opera House and it was pretty cool. I am not a
big fan of musicals, I find it sort of funny when
two people are having a perfectly normal conversation
and then they suddenly break out in dramatic song.
(My wife commented that the theater was about
75% women and 25% men (the Red Sox were playing
at the same time, maybe that was it?)
But overall, the show was really entertaining
and it had a great plot. I mean, we all grew up
with 'The Wizard of Oz' and that story is as much
a part of us as E.T. or Star Wars or Charlie and
the Chocolate Factory. The musical Wicked is a
story that falls before, during and after 'The
Wizard of Oz' and deals with the life of the good
and 'wicked' witches. So the two stars were the
two witches and they were awesome.
They were funny, great actors, and fantastic
singers. When we got home at the end of the night
we flipped on the tube and caught the end of Saturday
Night Live. The musical guests were the Chili
Peppers and while they rocked and are totally
awesome, Kiedis's voice paled in comparison to
the women of Wicked. My wife even commented on
it.
The show had cool effects and had almost all
of the characters from the Wizard of Oz in it,
and at least a few made comeo appearances.
One of the cool things about the story was that
it explained where/how all of Dorothy's friends
and many of the other Oz characters originated.
I won't give the plot away, but if you ever wondered
why the tin man didn't have a heart or why the
scarecrow didn't have a brain, or even how the
scarecrow came into being in the first place,
then this show will give you the answers, and
in very creative ways.
If you even mildly like The Wizard of Oz, or
you appreciate good, clean fun, great singing
and family entertainment, then definitely check
out Wicked. All in all, it was a cool show and
I recommend it to any guy who wants to be a hero
(if just for the night) with their lady.
